Cheap Car Rentals in Tampa

Even thought I called a week, and again a day in advance to confirm reservation, I was told the morning of the rental that if I didn't arrive at the office when it opened, I could not be guaranteed a vehicle. The car that I was given smelled so terribly of disinfectant, we had to purchase bottles of vinegar to dissipate odors. We also had to leave windows open at night and wash all clothes that came in contact with seats and floors.

The website added a pick up location away from where I asked. I was very specific in my search to ask for a specific airport pickup. and when we arrived at the airport site they said they had no reservation, the site where our reservation was closed, they had no cars at all. They offered no help other than yo try the other car rental counters in the airport. Flip side was Thrifty/Dollar who offered many suggestions for dealing with Alamo (try Uber to hotel & Uber back in the morning), and then worked hard to not only find a car my husband could fit in, but reduced the price as best they could to come close to matching the price we got from Alamo.

Didn't have the car that I reserved but made it right with a free upgrade. Great experience overall, will rent with them again.

Overall a decent experience, only issue was the car smelt really bad.

The check-in line was a tad long and took a bit longer than others (ie Hertz/Budget), but the friendly staff and quality of car was well worth the minor delay!

The branch manager, Manouchka Castor, was excellent. The car was higher mileage, and a few years old, with only the most basic trim level, but was decently cleaned.

First the pickup and drop off place was a Hertz rental location and not a Thrifty location. Second this is a location less geared to travelers and more geared to local customers and it is understaffed. Third it is not anywhere near the airport and we could not change the location to the airport which would have Ben more convenient. Finally, we were not offered the opportunity to purchase the fuel program, so had to stop to buy extra gas unnecessarily. All of the above made this rental car experience poor.

The problem itself is not with the car rental company, but with the Kayak. I made the first reservation, however, with the wrong time, so the car rental company suggested that I make another reservation, which I did. I picked up a car and they charged me for 2. I'm waiting for a response to this.

The Hertz rental location manager did not have my vehicle ready and available for me at my scheduled time and then proceeded to blame my frustration on my being 30 minutes late past my scheduled pickup time, which was kind of an odd excuse for why my rental was not ready or available. An hour later, the rental vehicle arrived on the lot in horrible shape (dirty on the outside and a complete mess on the inside). The story from the store manager was that the vehicle needed an oil change and that's why it was not on the lot. So, I drove away in my filthy late vehicle that I had prepaid for about 3 weeks prior. The most intriguing part of my Hertz rental experience was when the Hertz rental location manager arrived at my home un-announced and un-invited about 2 hours after I picked up the rental vehicle and told me it was an emergency that the prior renter had left something inside the vehicle. I was flustered not only at the fact that this manager had decided to show up without my knowledge or consent, but also because I was still working and on a phone call so I wanted to just make him leave. At this point, my children had already put some of their bags into the rental vehicle as we were about to depart on our road trip within the next hour. So, as I allowed the Hertz manager to search for this mystery item I noticed that he was being extremely guarded and not sharing what he was looking for. I understood why when he located the item and tried to hide it from me... It was a GUN. A pistol inside the rental vehicle right next to where my kids would be sitting. I was so amazingly upset, angry, frustrated and utterly dumbfounded that I just wanted him to leave. I reported all of this experience and information to Hertz and I am still awaiting an apology, a confirmation, some form of compensatory value but most importantly an explanation as to how this happened and how they will ensure that it never happens again!! I have contacted Hertz multiple times through social media, by phone, by email, but every response has been "we are looking into it". Unless something unexpected happens, I fully expect to ignore me unless legally forced to do something. I would probably try and avoid a company like this - especially because they are just coming off of a massive lawsuit settlement where they falsely claimed renters had stolen their rental vehicles and had them arrested!! What a great company! Avoid Hertz. You'll be happier.

The car pick up and drop off experience was smooth but Hertz charged me multiple extra charges (including a charge double the entire cost of the car rental and the cost of the toll when I had paid the toll in cash and intentionally declined the toll pass) that I had to call them about after my trip, which was time consuming and annoying.

Drop off was crazy, lack of customer support personnel

Everything was great except the key fob, required to start the vehicle, died on day 4, and I had to scramble to find and buy a button battery before I could turn off the engine and know I could start it again. .

Car was better than expected. Service agent at the beginning was the worst part of the experience. No issues… more direction with instructions for drop off would have been nice. Overall not a bad experience and for the price I would definitely use them again.

Long wait to get vehicle… not a long line but a long wait once all my details were entered in their system and they then need to wait for a car to be assigned. Then, when we got to the pickup area they couldn’t find the actual car…

Price was good and car was what we needed. They do try to upsell you a bit at the check in counter . Offer a more expensive car, offer insurance which you don’t need if you have an auto policy, offer to sell you a tank of gas rather than refilling yourself. Just say no to all of it.

Pick up was extremely disorganized. The Tampa Airport staff needs additional training. But the cost of the rental itself was on the lower end, so that was a positive.

We had booked a van online at Tampa international airport and when we got there we were told we didn’t but they said u must have been re-routed to a Avis agent half hour north of airport- this was terrible- then we were told we could not return it at Tampa and had to bring it back the agent or we would be charged - terrible - we should be partially compensated for out trouble Darren

I arrived at the airport at one am and had a car reservation and they gave it away and stranded me. I will never rent another car from this company again!
