Cheap Car Rentals in Bankers Hill, San Diego

They booked me a rental at a location that was closed the day that I was scheduled to pick up. There other location was out of cars and I would not be able to pick up the car I booked for 3 days since it was a holiday weekend. I booked this rental months in advance and had to go to the only other company that had any cars available and pay nearly $400 more. They refunded me but it didn’t even come close to covering what their mistake cost me. I will never book a car with Hertz again or through a third party.

Didn’t have any cars when we arrived. Said they had no idea when more cars would be coming in. This has never happened to me before when renting a car. Nothing to make it right, either! They offered to send me to another rental agency down the street that wanted to charge me $150 more for the week. I eventually went to U Save Rental Cars and got a cheaper deal than even Economy offered me originally! I won’t ever try to rent from here again. Too risky.

The Nissan Rogue that I paid to upgrade to was extremely small. The full size car (billed as similar to a Toyota Camry) wasn't available so they offered me this small SUV. I should have asked for a deal on the upgrade since what I had rented wasn't available. Instead I was charged $40/day to get a vehicle which was still too small. The most important part however is that the rental agency is located OFF the airport grounds. You have to take a shuttle from the terminals to the Airport Car rental area, wait there for another van to pick you up to take you to the office on India St. Then when you return the car you do the same thing in reverse. Plan ahead. If they are busy you might just miss your plane! My husband insisted on going with Economy but in the long run I could have spent the same money with Hertz or Avis and not had to spend 20 minutes in transit each time. Live and learn.

Complete and utter disaster. The day of my flight, I got a text from them saying they weren't actually located at the airport, and that I should take a cab to get to them, and they would reimburse. So I did that, arriving at 5:45 pm. Had some trouble finding the place - no signage. But when I did... it was closed. No one nearby knew anything. I called and text several times, but got no response. I was literally stranded, in a strange city, miles from the airport, with my suitcase in the (rare) rain. I used google maps to find another rental place, a mile away. I walked it in the rain, only to find they had limited inventory and sky high prices. I finally took a Lyft to my lodging where my host said "You should just install Turo!" I did, and got a great car for a fraction of the price, delivered. My experience with U-Save literally could not have been any worse. Was their remote location, or the fact that they closed so early? The fact that they haven't responded to any of my calls or text makes them look like the worst fly by night sham imaginable. I strongly recommend that Kayak stop working with this company. I'm still trying to figure out whether my credit card was charged or not.
