There was an additional ~30 EUR charge on top of what I had paid through expedia/kayak, which came as a surprise. The drop off location in Salzburg wasn’t immediately obvious in terms of how to find it and return the car (city location near Hbf).

The experience was terrible and I will never again use Avis. The car size I reserved 7 months ahead of time. They wanted to give me a much smaller car that would not have worked for our family of 5. I thus had to rent from Sixt car rental and pay last minute price that was more than 3 times the rate reserved for the Avis car. This is pathetic customer service

We have booked in advance an automatic car from next to the central station, but after waiting an hour in the line they told us that there wes no automatic car available and that we have to go to another location.
